Jacob Slagter

Jacob Slagter, born in 1958, played his first solo concerto when he was fourteen with the North Netherlands Orchestra. He studied at the Music Academy in Leeuwarden and the Royal Conservatory in the Hague with Oldrich Milek.

At that time Jacob was a prize winner at prestigious competitions in Prague and Luxenbourg.

In 1981 Jacob Slagter joined the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. He has been principle horn since 1985.

As a soloist he has performed with Bernard Haitink, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Wolfgang Sawallisch and Riccardo Chailly. In 1988 Jacob was presented with the ‘Dutch Music Prize’ by ex-Minister of Culture Eelco Brinkman. He is also an active chamber music player. He is a member of the Fodor Quintet and has performed on many occassions with the violinists Emmy Verhey and Jaap van Zweden. Jacob Slagter is professor at the Sweelink Conservatory in Amsterdam.

Jacob Slagter has also conducted many orchestras including the Gelders Orchestra, the North Netherlands Orchestra, the Holland Symphonia and the North Hollands Philharmonic. He is chief conductor of the Netherlands Fanfare Orchestra.
